Adobe Acrobat and Reader Support for Geospatial Data Sharing PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 12 September 2008 02:11
Slashgeo regularly covered the GeoPDF developments, see related stories attached to this story. This week, Directions Mag offers an informative article about Adobe Acrobat and Reader and their support for geospatial data sharing. From the article: "DF helps address the challenge of dealing with the large size of geospatial data by compressing data dramatically. A TIFF file, after georegistration and conversion to PDF, can be as much as 80 percent smaller - a more manageable size for most networks and machines. The smaller files are readily available to people using Adobe Reader. This means that people don’t have to download more software to work with geospatial files. Instead, they can use the client software to interact with maps, measure distances and turn layers on and off. Acrobat 9 also makes it easy to collaborate on content in maps, because it enables reviewers to bring maps into digital review and markup workflows."
