GPS Culture has just added 800,000 points for western Canada. You will find school zones, water falls, historic points, place names and more. We will be adding eastern Canada very soon followed by the USA and our Marine Navigation Database. Check back often our points are always being updated.

The MIO P550 is a great PDA/PND. It comes preloaded with North America which takes up 1.5Gb of the 2Gb internal memory. This leaves the user with about 500 Mb for programs and saved data. This is plenty for the average user. Not everyone needs all of North America in the unit at one time. You can eliminate either Canada or the USA from your maps sets to free up memory Here's one way to do it. ....

The Easy Way

The simple way to eliminate a map is to delete it from the internal memory of your unit. Simply Open File Explorer and find the folder Mydevice->Windows/MioMap/maps . Delete the map you do not require, you can always reload it using the MIO Map DVD that comes in the P550 package. If you delete the USA you will gain almost 1.5Gb of space. Canada takes up about 100Mb.

The Other Way

Here is how you would do it by performing a clean boot and reinstalling Miomap with the map of your choice.

The following procedure will delete all files from your MIO P550. Back-up all user data stored on the unit before proceeding.

Perform a Clean Boot;

  • Reset(cold boot) the Unit by pressing the 'Reset' Button beside the USB/charging port.
  • Press the Up Button during cold boot until you can see the splash screen.
  • Now you will have to recalibrate the screen and go through the set-up screens.
The P550 is now reset and only WM5 will be loaded. Now Miomap must be reloaded. Use the MIO map and application DVD to reload the mapping program to the device.
  • The program does not automatically install so you must find it in the internal memory and run it. (My Device -> Windows -> MioMap - miomapinstall)
  • Once MIOmap is loaded you can transfer new maps to the unit.
  • Using the same DVD choose the country of your choice. Lets Choose Canada (100Mb).
  • Done; Since we loaded only Canada we have over 1.8Gb free internal space for programs and saved data.

The most for waypoint saving you will get is the History memory and Two favorite locations Home and Work. There are lots of free programs for picking up waypoints and tracks online just try google.
